A story is like a tree, which begins from a tiny seedling. As the tree grows, it adds leaves and branches. Its roots crawl deeper and wider. So does this story.
The seedling of our story began in China during the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The fall of the Qing Dynasty led to seismic changes during those one hundred years. China saw a mass exodus of its people fleeing their war-torn homeland in search of safer havens elsewhere.
To stay one step ahead of impending danger, a prominent family in Canton, the Yius, were forced to leave their palatial home and embarked on a life-changing journey. As begrudging participants in this dreadful chapter of human history, the characters in the story had to overcome unimaginable hardships and found hope through steadfast friendship and enduring love. In the face of great adversity, they encountered the connection between faith and the miraculous. Life’s ups and downs had drawn them closer to their own understanding of humanity.
